Role of Physiotherapy Rehabilitation in Chronic Neurodegenerative Conditions
Course Overview
This course, led by Dr. Hina Garg, focuses on the role of physiotherapy in managing chronic neurodegenerative diseases. It covers the pathophysiology, clinical presentation, and physiotherapeutic management of conditions such as Multiple Sclerosis, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, Lou Gehrig’s disease (ALS), and other neurodegenerative disorders. Students will learn evidence-based, multimodal therapeutic strategies aimed at improving functional outcomes and enhancing the quality of life for individuals with these conditions.
Chapters & Learning Objectives
Chapter 1: Multiple Sclerosis (Types, Presentations and Physiotherapeutic Management)
: 00:17 Hour
This chapter examines Multiple Sclerosis (MS), including its different types (Relapsing-Remitting, Primary Progressive, and Secondary Progressive), clinical symptoms, and how they affect function. The focus is on physiotherapeutic interventions aimed at improving mobility, strength, balance, and managing fatigue, tailored to the individual’s disease progression.
Chapter 2: Chronic Neurodegenerative Conditions (Alzheimer’s, Lou Gehrig’s Disease, Friedreich and Spinocerebellar Ataxia, Parkinson’s)
: 00:06 Hour
This chapter covers various chronic neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s, ALS, Friedreich Ataxia, Spinocerebellar Ataxia, and Parkinson’s. It highlights the clinical features of each condition and the role of physiotherapy in managing symptoms, improving mobility, and maintaining functional independence.
Chapter 3: Role of Physical Therapist (Multimodal Techniques for Neurodegenerative Conditions)
: 00:16 Hour
In this chapter, students will learn about multimodal physiotherapy techniques for managing neurodegenerative conditions. The focus is on exercise therapy, manual therapy, balance training, and assistive technologies, as well as the importance of personalized care plans, patient education, and caregiver involvement in improving quality of life for patients.
